Discover how successful faculty professional development, which models effective andragogy, learner engagement, participant support and quality standards evolves. Faculty development which is directed toward participant success can solve administrative concerns. A common result is faculty support, ultimately translating to effective teaching practices, quality courses and student success/retention. When the professional development program employs an authentic outcome, faculty feel that their time spent is worthwhile. With acquired respect, participation requirements are more easily accepted. The professional development program at the Community College of Baltimore County for faculty teaching online and blended courses has evolved dramatically over 7 years. The lessons learned are valuable to faculty, department chairs and senior administration. The presentation outlines practical application for novice through expert levels. Further the material actively reflects on research data and surveys conducted of professional development participants. While community colleges representatives experiencing double digit enrollment surges can clearly benefit from this presentation, most education al institutions can benefit from a greater understanding of factors necessary for effective professional development. Persons developing corporate training and universities with large volumes of faculty may also appreciate this journey to stronger professional development which serves the faculty and the institution.
The presentation includes references to a community of learners, mentoring, adult learner needs, disability compliance, learner engagement, alignment of course outcomes/ learning objectives and assessments. Authentic assessment and established quality standards are emphasized throughout the program.
