Abstract

Since 1991, the NetMath program at University of Illinois has taught university level mathematics courses to high school students. NetMath will share their experiences and challenges from their years of experience of teaching online mathematics to high school students.

Extended Abstract

The original mission (1991) of the NetMath program at University of Illinois was to bring calculus 1 to rural high school students in Illinois. The high school portion of this program has since grown to include hundreds of students annually nationwide and the curriculum includes everything from pre-calculus mathematics to calculus and beyond. This poster session will display the vast experience that NetMath has gained over the years. By remaining flexible and through the use of mentoring, the poster will cover vignettes of success as well as the challenges it has faced over the years. Particular attention will be given to how we engage these young learners.
