A class guide organizes the course and orients students in the class. A well-designed guide may be the single most important aspect of a blended course. This workshop will help participants design more effective guides by writing clear learning objectives and by creating well-organized assignments.

Class guides may be the most important aspect of a blended course because the guide helps orient students any time they visit the class site. Instructors often overlook the value of clear learning objectives in a traditional course (an instructor might say 'I'll tell them what they need to know') but these objectives become crucial in a blended course. The face-to-face time must be used effectively so an instructor wants to help students be as prepared for face-to-face time as possible. Participants will review learning objectives because writing clear objectives is difficult for even the most seasoned instructor. The elements of class guides will be demonstrated and participants will begin to sketch a class guide for their particular course. Through pair-and-share and reporting out to the whole group some sample designs will be examined to help participants gain confidence in improving their own class guides.
