Abstract

Review design options for blended online content accessible to more than the majority. A checklist will be provided and simple design techniques shared.

Extended Abstract

Building the online component of hybrid or blended design, in most cases, falls to the instructors at all levels. Many tech savvy instructors navigate the design options with ease. However, a great looking, engaging content page might not be a Webpage that all participants can read or navigate. However, with just a short list of tips and tricks, the average designer or instructor can build the content with universal design in mind and thus make it accessible to most of the users regardless of the need instead of just the majority of users. The presentation will define universal design as well as include anecdotal evidence of the need for universal design. The techniques and ideas presented are based in current research from a variety of resources and a subsequent paper written in October 2011. Examples and non-examples will be shared and the participants will be shown how to design some of the suggestions from a platform agnostic perspective. Participants will also be provided with a list of resources used in the presentation and additional resources to assist as they begin to design online content with universal accessibility in mind.
