Abstract

Institutional pollicies can have a critical influence on whether online courses at an institution can successfully meet quality standards.  This session will focus on standards in the 2011-2013 QM Higher Education Rubric that are impacted by institutional policy and explore ways that a quality assurance initiative can inform institutional distance learning policy.

Deb Adair
Deborah Adair is the director of the Quality MattersTM Program of MarylandOnline. The Quality Matters Program serves the higher education and K-12 communities with quality assurance tools for online and hybrid instruction, and its peer-based approach has evolved into a widely developed component of faculty development for online/blended instruction across the U.S.
 
Dr. Adair has more than 20 years’ experience in non-profit leadership and management consulting. She has received citations from the governor and legislature in Maryland, as well as Calvert County, for her work on literacy and women’s issues. Dr. Adair has held faculty appointments in management at the American University and Troy State University; she currently teaches online courses for the University of Maryland University College. Previously, she served in the U.S. Army as a Soviet Analyst and Cryptologic Linguist (Russian). 
Deborah is a graduate of the first class of the Institute for Emerging Leadership in Online Education, a Sloan-C Partnership with Penn State University as well as the HERS Denver Institute for women leaders in higher education administration.
