Abstract

The word is out- the iPad is the most innovative device of recent years! Join us in this interactive session to discover how to utilize only an iPad for planning and classroom management, yet still have all the information needed as an instructor at your fingertips.

Extended Abstract

SESSION OUTCOMES: • Identify the benefits of utilizing the iPad as a device to assist an instructor. • Define uses of the iPad within the categories of classroom management, planning, textbooks, online instruction, useful applications, and communications. • Identify specific functions and uses of the iPad with potential benefit to the participant's specific discipline. SESSION DESCRIPTION: As educational institutions at all levels see increases in the use of iPads by instructors and students, it's essential that knowledge and training related to the effective use of iPads in education be provided. It's entirely possible for an instructor to utilize the iPad as a replacement for traditional methods of research and instructional materials, as well as as aid in effective classroom management. This session proposes to utilize the shared experiences of faculty in higher education in their quest to utilize the iPad as a "one stop" device. Through sharing of best practices and the most effective solutions discovered since the introduction of the iPad approximately 14 months ago, information and guidance can be provided to other instructors who are currently using or planning to use the iPad as an educational tool. Specific topics to be covered include classroom management, planning, textbooks, online instruction, useful applications, and communications. Practical, firsthand knowledge will be provided in an interactive experience that permits participants to be engaged in the presentation through the demonstration and use of slides, web sites, and specific applications, which the audience can utilize in real time. Additionally, interactive questions and answers and audience contribution will be a part of the session. Specific apps to be incorporated into the presentation include: • iWork Suite • Blackboard Mobile • Cengage Course Smart • Pearson eText • Find iPad • Dropbox • Quick Voice Recorder • Evernote • Goodreader • Mobile Air Mouse • Write Pad • Facetime • Attache • Teacher Pal • Splashtop • Team Viewer
