Abstract
This poster reviews online sources for teaching science research courses for competitons, reviews the pedagogic literature for such courses, and recounts the case of one high school student's experience learning scientific research at the high school level.
Extended Abstract
The pedagogy of teaching science is well studied, but the pedagogy of teaching science research is not. Teaching students to create meaningful experiments is normally done at the college level, however competitions such as the Siemen's and Intel science competitions have encouraged the development of research programs at the high school level. Several colleges offer summer research opportunities to secondary students, but at a cost that is unaffordable to many. Science research can be made affordable to all with these techniques. The presentation will demonstrate some effective techniques using accessible online resources to effectively teach science research at secondary institutions.
Final Presentation:
Lead Presenter

Winfield is a high school junior who successfully combined online with traditional education since he was in kindergarten. Through the Stanford EPGY program he was able to finish sixth grade mathematics while in first grade. This success encouraged him to study through Florida Virtual School and the Unverisity of Miami High School online allowing him to accelerate in school without the need for placement with students outside his age group. He plans to take differential equstions online as a high school senior. His online work landed him a spot in a Yale laboratory to perform research during his summer vacation. He has aslo participated with the Council on Foreign Relations' Global Kids Initiative.
