Extended Abstract
Welcome to NP-Whoa! In this interactive poster session, workshop attendees will get a fast-paced introduction to how online tools can help your non-profit organization stay communicative and collaborative with other organization, clients, and volunteers and consultants without even leaving the office. Participants will have time to ask questions, share their experiences with NPO collaboration, and leave with a list of NPOs that their school can patch in with anytime! We'll be highlighting Empowering Women of Nepal, and how using Twitter, Facebook, and Google Docs helped them connecting with education volunteers to successfully write grants, keep in touch, and share their successes with the world. We'll look at Girl Hub University from the Nike Foundation, which is using innovative webinar technology to train donors and organizations in Sub-Saharan Africa and Asia on how to promote women's rights and economic initiatives to end poverty and unique social networking to keep University participants in the loop after training. We'll also check out several professional development initiatives in Jamaica, including a complete technology conference planning via Google Docs and Skype and the student tech conference agenda that helps involve teachers from around the island. We'll also look at how teachers and students were taught collaborative technologies and authentic community projects with technology, and how they made connections with schools in the states and beyond for collaborating with. Finally, we'll Skype in with Educators without Borders, who are doing some amazing ICT projects and training in Southern Africa and they'll impart some great tips on how to leverage media and social networking for effective professional development from afar. Participants will leave with a handout of resources, a website for slides and other materials, and part of an international network of educators on Twitter. All of these non-profit organizations are involved in grant-writing, consulting, and training to remote locations, and we hope to share some of their techniques and tools that can be applicable to other NPOs but also to educational institutions offering distance learning.
