Extended Abstract

The role of professors used to be viewed as knowledge generation and teaching. However, since the beginning of the technological transformation such as the acceptance of personal computers in the beginning of 1981 and now smart board, mobile, and cloud computing in 2011. What are the challenges and how we can prepare this new generation of faculty? The goals of this presentation is to present multiple perspectives in faculty development from two distinctive cultures: Taiwan and California. Two university professors shared their reflections on the changing role of the professors from publish or perish to teach and build engaging learning communities for students.
