This presentation examines the use of freely available social media applications such as Animoto, Twitter, VoiceThread, Jing, and WordPress, in a fully online course about Digital Storytelling. Through this hybrid open learning model, adult students produce digital narratives based on individual experience, personal storytelling, and memory. They reflect on original social media projects through online discussions, individual essays, blog postings, and project summaries. In this course, students use several social media tools that extend beyond the context of the learning management system. Participants are encouraged to share their own course models and open resources that effectively place learners at the center of social media production and communication.
