The combination of more bandwidth and cheaper tools for producing video has led to an explosion in the number of online educational videos. These range from short instructional YouTube videos to collections of hour-long videotaped lectures for an entire course. In this session we will discuss our efforts to develop standards for the evaluation of educational videos. We will also provide examples of videos that we feel are good models of how video can be used effectively for education, and examples of inappropriate uses of video. Audience members will be asked for their input on the standards we are developing.
