LectureTools (http://www.lecturetools.com) is a free resource for instructors that has been shown to increase student attentiveness and engagement using Web 2.0 technologies. It allows students to 1) type notes synchronized with lecture slides; 2) self-assess their understanding; 3) pose questions and view answers; 5) draw on lecture slides; 6) respond to instructor questions; 7) listen to podcasts; and 8) print lecture slides. New capabilities include the capacity for student notes to be automatically linked to external resources, including their textbook, and for instructors to be offered suggestions for additional learning objects based on the text on their PowerPoint slides.
