Introduction:

The rise of MOOCs and large-scale courses offered through Coursera, Udacity, and EdX confers a new level of preparation and facilitation to educators. Open boundaries, transparency, and access to vast networks provide new considerations for facilitation. Authority, control, expectations become negotiated or defined. Learning and community become uniquely personal and intertwined. The transformation of education from limited access to open access calls into question rigor, evaluation, assessment, accreditation, and value of theory versus skill-based learning. This workshop draws from best practices in Online Learning to meet this new paradigm.

Upon successful completion of the workshop, you will be able to:

  • Analyze your philosophy of teaching and learning and how it impacts your approach to teaching in a MOOC
  • Analyze differences in teaching and learning, including assessment, in a MOOC
