Using, Reusing, and Sharing Ed Resources 2 Sep 2012
Open educational resources (OER) is a term that was first adopted by UNESCO, defining OER as “digitized materials offered freely and openly for educators, students and self-learners to use and re-use for teaching, learning and research.” In this course we’ll discuss how best to find high quality content for use in teaching and learning and hear from those who have found effective and creative ways to incorporate these resources in a variety of settings - online, blended, and traditional courses. The workshop covers a variety of OER issues including where to find materials, quality assurance, licensing, and use. We’ll also discuss how OER repositories, referatories, and consortia have been organized to help teachers and learners find, adapt, and incorporate OER into their experiences. Additionally, we will explore the issues of using OER to help lower student costs, through providing alternatives to traditional textbooks.
