John R. Bourne Retirement Announcement
I am writing to the online and blended learning community as President of the Board of Directors for the Sloan Consortium. As John Bourne has indicated, he has announced his retirement. In his continuing professional style, John has given the Board flexibility in identifying a replacement and in the timing. John will transition in 2012, and will most likely continue to work with us on transitions and special projects.
The Board of Directors has created a search committee, chaired by Meg Benke, Provost SUNY Empire State College and Selma Botman, President of the University of Southern Maine. The committee includes A. Frank Mayadas, founder Sloan Consortium, Joel L. Hartman, Vice Provost for Information Technologies, University of Central Florida, Anthony G. Picciano, Professor and Executive Director of Urban Education PhD Program, City University of New York and Sandi Fecteau, Chief Financial Officer of Sloan-C. The position has been posted in the Chronicle of Higher Education, and the description and site to apply online is at www.sloanconsortium.org/executivedirectorsearch. Applications will only be received through this site and you need to log-in to apply. We will begin reviewing candidates the first week of October and hope to identify the new leader of the Sloan Consortium by early 2012.
I know you will all join me in congratulating John Bourne and thank him for his many years of leadership. Many of the outstanding achievements of this organization have been spearheaded by John and I am sure there will be opportunities to celebrate with him at our conferences and virtual events. The Sloan-C staff, board and our many volunteers are also to be congratulated at presenting what I consider to be the premier leadership opportunity in online and blended learning. Please consider nominations or forwarding this announcement to appropriate candidates for the executive level.
As the advertisement indicates, questions about the position can be forwarded through email to me, or general questions about Sloan-C as an employer can be directed to Sandi Fecteau. Inquiries will be held in confidence by the committee.
