September 2012 Facilitator of the Month – Ellen Marie Murphy
Our Facilitator of the Month is Ellen Marie Murphy.
In August she facilitated Personal Learning Environments: Are They the Future of Online Learning http://bit.ly/NeHxtu and in October she will facilitate Be the Master of Your Moodle http://bit.ly/NKwKuz.
According to workshop surveys, participants have appreciated Ellen Marie's high touch interaction level. She is very involved in scaffolding participant success in her workshops and achieves a strong sense of facilitator presence. Her workshops include 'office hours' by chat and high quality resources that guide her learners through using new technologies.
Ellen Marie joined Empire State College in September of 2011 and currently serves as the Director of Online Curriculum. She is also the Co-Chair of the Educause Blended and Online Constituent Group, serves on The Association for Authentic, Experiential and Evidence Based Learning ‘s K-12 Institute Committee, and is the ESC liaison to the Open CourseWare Consortium. She is the author of the Mahara 1.4 ePortfolio Cookbook, recently published by Packt Publication.
Prior to Empire State College, she was the Director of Learning Technologies and Online Education at Plymouth State University and Director of Instructional Technologies at The Sage Colleges. In both of these former positions she was responsible for developing the Policies and Procedures for Online Education at the institution, developing faculty training, development of courses for online delivery, taking a lead role in the transition from a proprietary LMS to a self-hosted Moodle system, and facilitating the adoption of an institutional ePortfolio system. At Plymouth she was also responsible for seeking State Authorizations.
Ellen Marie is also a regarded public speaker on topics such as ePortfolios, Personal Learning Environments (PLEs), Assessment Strategies using Technology, Moodle, Mahara, Web 2.0, Course Design, Multimedia, and Distance Learning.
Heidi Stevenson, University of the Pacific, who participated in the August PLE workshop remarked "Great workshop! I appreciated the chance to explore resources and learn a great deal about PLEs that I had no real knowledge about prior to the workshop."
