December 2012 Sloan-C Institute Featured Participant - Jane Harris

Our Sloan-C Featured Participant for December 2012 is Jane Harris.

Jane
Harris is an Instructional Technology Consultant for the UNC Greensboro’s School of Health and Human Sciences. She is a frequent presenter at teaching and learning with technology conferences and helps run the Lilly Conference on College and University Teaching Greensboro.

During 2012 Jane participated in five mobile learning and social media workshops including Simple Recipes for Better Social Media Experience; Using Mobile Devices Effectively in Online Courses; and Enhancing Distance Learning with Audio and Video. This fall she also explored Using Facebook in a Teaching Context and Introduction to Mobile App/Game Development.

Jane brings so much expertise and enthusiasm to the workshops she participates in. One of her fellow participants commented on how having her in the workshop was like having an additional facilitator. Her astute observations and helpful insights ensured her place in each workshop as a 'most valuable player.'

About her experience with Sloan-C Institute workshops, Jane writes:

"The Sloan-C workshops I have taken have been rich in resources and opportunities. The content was comprehensive. The knowledge of the facilitators was deep and they were very responsive and helpful. It was great to be working with other attendees  as it meant that I could leverage their knowledge and experience as well. There is no way we can learn it all individually anymore. We need one another and opportunities like this. Everyone was cordial and mutually supportive, making it a safe space in which to experiment. Finally, it gave me more experience in the role of an online student, which is always useful."

A true lifelong learner, Jane has particular interests in how people learn and the role technology is playing in that endeavor. She continues to explore how expectations that students and instructors have of one another affect the teaching and learning experience for both.

Congratulations, Jane! We are proud to feature you as our Sloan-C Institute December 2012 Featured Participant.
