Online education exists in a highly regulated environment. At every stage from course development to course delivery there are policies governing what is appropriate and what may not be so. That online education crosses many jurisdictional boundaries only adds to the complexity of managing policies. This Research Symposium, the last of the 2012 Sloan Consortium Research Symposia series, will bring together experts representing various perspectives on the issue of policy in online education. These include an institutional perspective, regional perspective, national organization perspective, and federal perspective.

The availability of the Internet is completely transforming higher education. Frank Mayadas, senior advisor to the Sloan Foundation and lead off speaker for this symposium.
