What do we know about scaling online learning? Perspectives from research and practice on industry growth

The availability of the Internet is completely transforming higher education. Large scale usage is already here and the possibilities opened up by online learning are wide-ranging and immediate, according to A. Frank Mayadas, senior advisor to the Sloan Foundation and lead off speaker for this symposium. He notes there are cost-effective ways to build even greater scale onto the strong foundation already in place with great understanding of culture, technology, leadership, public profile and policy.

Innovations in Online Student Services

A new commons group for members interested in advancing online student services is now open at http://commons.sloanconsortium.org/groups/innovations-online-student-services.

For a collaborative paper in their January 2013 special issue of the Journal of Asynchronous Learning Networks (JALN), Anita Crawley and Marie Fetzner will guide the group. They will seek to publish authors and institutions who contribute vignettes .

Sloan-C Certificate Program - September Cohort Starts Soon

A unique feature of the certificate program is that expert mentors work individually with each certificate candidate to accomplish specific goals. The certificate consists of a 9-week foundation course and a variety of electives or learning specializations that focus on improving overall competency within a specific area of academic focus.
