Short Bio:

My name is Hayley Lake, and I was born in Moline, Illinois. My family then moved to Spokane Washington were I graduated from high school.  I began my first career in 1986, when I left Spokane and moved to St. Louis, MO, where I was employed as a flight attendant for Trans World Airlines (TWA). I worked for TWA for 8 years and then got married. I spent most of my time living in Hawaii, on a sail boat with a five-year stay in South Florida, and then back to the Big Island of Hawaii, where I began my second career as owner/operator of a coffee plantation. I returned to school and went to U of H. I moved back to the Spokane area, where I completed my education at Eastern Washington University. I then began my third career. I worked several years at the methadone maintenance clinic at Spokane Regional Health District as a counselor and then started my fourth and hopefully last career as an instructor at EWU.

When I am not teaching, writing lectures, or grading papers, I like to cook. For sports I enjoy running, skiing, and golfing. In the summer I have a large beautiful flower garden that keeps me busy. My children consist of two dogs, big dogs, Great Pyrenees, and four cats, and a husband; don't worry, I am not a crazy hoarder lady. I live on 40 acres, and only one cat lives in the house.

Area of Expertise Short Description:

Throughout my life and career collaboration has always been important.  In all my jobs and many personal endevors, collaboration is required and is essential to complete most tasks safely, effeciently, and timely. Community and collaboration go hand in hand.  If someone is collaborating with others they are a community and community building.  My work experience and life experiences have  provided me many opportunities to develop and practice community building and collaboration and I am very skilled at both.

As a businees owner, a counselor, and now a college instructor I am constantly learning and open to new points of view.   As an instructor in Addiction Studies my field requires that I remain current on new advances.  Having taught at the college level for five years I am knowledgeable about teaching strategies and methods of instruction.  As a result of teaching, I have also become well informed about students needs and expectations.

In conclusion, I am an expert in the aforementioned areas as a result of my education, work experiences and life experiences.
