Event Summary: 

Participants will:

  • Develop Second Life skills to support pedagogy
  • Become well-versed in: seating areas, display panels, voice/text sessions, session recording, groups (creation, messaging, management), basic building, basic texturing (importing and using graphics), basic interactions (modifying easy scripts for instructional use)

Online Workshop Description: 
This workshop advances the skills of intermediate users (who have taken the level 2 workshop or its equivalent) to develop Second Life pedagogy, to design environments, and manage tools.
Schedule: 
Workshop Opens - November 30th. Please introduce yourself and begin reviewing materials
Workshop Orientation - Wednesday, November 30th at 4pm EST
Workshop Officially Closes - December 9th. All workshop materials will be available through November 30, 2012

Presenter/Panelist Biographies
Biographies of Presenters/Panelists: 

Cathy Arreguin

Cathy is a trained instructional designer and educational technologist with 4+ years of Second Life educational experience. She lives, works and collaborates at a distance from my home in the Sierra foothills of Central California. With many years in both K12 and non-profit work, developing curriculum, training and educational media for both children and adults, she now divides her time developing instructions and in supporting educators in the uses of educational technologies for both K12 and higher education.


Through pICT (People, Information, Communication & Technology), she currently provides professional development and support for San Diego State University faculty and administrators in their use of Second Life and other virtual worlds as a new medium for instruction. She also teach EDTEC700 Teaching in Second Life ( and provide support for other EDTEC courses.


She has recently worked with Global Kids, Inc, an educational non-profit based in New York City. Their collaborations include a professional development Second Life skills curriculum and Science through Second Life (a standards based 9th grade science curriculum). Her M.A. in Education (Educational Technology) is through San Diego State University. Her ongoing interests are in technology related professional development and in the development of comprehensive systems that provide educators and trainers the support they need to both design and implement innovative and effective learning experiences for their students. Her specialties include distance and online education, social media, virtual worlds and professional development.
