Online Workshop Description:
Open Educational Resources (OER) have been defined as “digitized materials offered freely and openly for educators, students and self-learners to use and re-use for teaching, learning and research” (UNESCO). Join in this exploration of how to find high quality content and materials for use in teaching and learning. Hear from leaders of OER organizations and faculty who have found effective and creative ways to incorporate these resources in a variety of settings - online, blended, and traditional courses. The workshop sessions and topics will provide introduction to OER issues including where to find them, quality assurance, licensing, and use. Workshop leaders and presenters will share perspectives on how OER repositories, referatories, and consortia have been organized to help teachers and learners find, adapt, and incorporate OER into their experiences. Additionally, the workshop will explore the issues of using OER to help lower student costs, through providing alternatives to traditional textbooks.
